Special Education
There are some students that may experience difficulties in school academically or socially in comparison to the peers in their classroom. Certain problems that these children may be faced with would be with their language skills, communication and speech, relationships building or in their fine and gross motor skills.
Special education is in place to provide additional services, support, programs, specialized placements or environments to ensure that all students' educational needs are provided for.
This includes a wide range of support services, depending on the individual needs of a student. Some of the services may involve various interventions with therapy sessions, behaviour modification strategies, counseling sessions, differentiated learning environments and educational and psychological assessments.
For support service to be rendered to a particular child, the child would have to be diagnosed with a learning disability and/or shows that the disability affects his learning in the classroom.
Having a learning disability does not mean that a child is incapable of learning; it just means that the child needs extra support and help in learning.
